Alyce (Holmes) Pope

LEAD HISTORIAN AND INTERVIEWER

Alyce is the lead historian and her passion for community activism and positive change led her to address the lack of historical information on Black communities in Bailey's Crossroads.


Background :

  • Grew up and lives in Bailey’s Crossroads, Virginia with a family history that spans over six generations of Bailey's Crossroads and Springdale residence.
  • Graduated from Jeb Stuart (Justice) High School in 1980.
  • Holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Management and a Master's degree in Clinical Community counseling.


Professional Experience:

  • Early Childhood Specialist at Fairfax County Public Schools for over 30 years
  •  Design and implement age-appropriate curriculum, incorporating play-based learning to enhance cognitive, social, and emotional skills.
  • Conduct developmental assessments and collaborate with parents to create individualized plans that support each child's unique needs.
  • Stay abreast of current research and best practices in early childhood education to ensure a cutting-edge and evidence-based approach.


Involvement with Black American Register of Bailey’s Crossroads:

  • As lead historian with a deep passion for uncovering and interpreting historical events, trends, and cultural shifts.
  • Conduct extensive archival research, utilizing primary sources and historical documents to piece together accurate and comprehensive narratives.
  • Specialize in a particular era, region, or theme, contributing to a nuanced understanding of historical contexts.


Personal Interest: 

  • Avid traveler with an adventure for exploring destinations abroad.
  • Engages in many community activities and organizations.
  • Finds fulfillment in mentoring youth and contributing to the development of future leaders.


Alyce's contributions are marked by a deep passion for uncovering historical narratives and fostering community development. Her dedication extends beyond professional realms, as seen in her engagement with community activities and her commitment to mentoring youth, embodying a holistic approach to community empowerment and positive change.
